Iditarod
- "The Last Great Race!"
Dr. George Stroberg is one of the attending
Senior Veterinarians for the Iditarod dog sled race that takes place in
Alaska each year around the beginning of March. |
|

 |
Dr. Stroberg was
interviewed by Channel 9 News on February 22, 2006 about his
role in the Iditarod Race each year in Alaska. Dr. stroberg
has been attending this event as one of it's leading Veterinarians for 4
years. Dr. Stroberg along with a whole team of Veterinarians
give all the animals full medical checkups and full physical examinations
before they are qualified to enter the race. Only the healthiest animals
allowed to run. Dr. Stroberg donates his time, services and
supplies to insure that these amazing little athletes receive the best
possible care available. |
|
After the race starts, Dr.
Stroberg flies out to various check points by bush plane in all
kinds of weather to give the dogs full physical exams at each station. This
is to ensure that everyone is doing well and help address any problems or
injuries that may arise during the race. Any dog that has suffered an injury
or become ill, is disqualified and must be removed from the race and flown
back to the main station for further medical care. A back-up team member
replaces the dog that was removed.
|
|
Dr. Stroberg does
presentations for various clubs and organizations throughout the Denver area
about his adventurous experiences while attending the Iditarod. He is
available for presentations and speaking engagements free of charge.

|
The Iditarod is considered "The Last
Great Race" and is held in the spirit of adventure each year in the rugged
back country of the Alaskan territory. These dogs are amazing athletes that
absolutely love what they do. To watch these dogs in action is unbelievable!
|
|
The musher's who run these teams of
incredible athletes, endure so of the roughest conditions of any sport known
today. They not only go through the treacherous terrain under all weather
conditions, but go days without sleep. It takes a tremendous amount of
endurance and stamina for the musher's who are themselves incredible
athletes.
|
|
Together, the Musher's and the
athletic dogs form an amazing team which serves as an extreme example of the
incredible power of the "Human Animal Bond." They live together, train
together, work together and play together. These dogs are often the greatest
part of the Musher's life. Not only their profession but their hobby and
often part of their family. Humans and Animals have throughout history
formed some of the most enduring partnerships. And of coarse animals have
always been tremendous companion to their Human Parents!
